We have had quite a bit of cool dribbly weather for all of May.  Very little sun.  Good for spring flowers and foliage!

"Benji has been off his feed for a couple of days.  We gave him some metacam, and a run in a different outside pen - just to jive him up.  He seems to like it.  And, he is doing better this evening too." - RG the Wary

... Yes, the bridge on Interstate 5 that collapsed tonight is right here about 4 miles from the House of Rabbits.  It crosses the Skagit River right between the cities of Burlington and Mt. Vernon.  Everbody here uses that bridge a lot, as does heavy industrial traffic between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.  Rerouting all that over the other three, narrow road bridges in the area will be a zoo for a long time.  There is no boat traffic, and fishing season is not on now either.  We have many alternate routes and ready access to supplies and services and thankfully it looks like there were no fatalities and very little traffic on the bridge - which was a big surprise since it is almost always quite busy." - RG, Yur Reporter near the Scene.
"I guess my little disaster needing some engineering assistance will have to wait?" - Racer the Stranded Upstairs

"I probably should have given Benji's back feetsy slippers a bit of a wash job first.  But BL had an impacted wisdom tooth removed this morning and I have had the ENTIRE duty including nurse-maid.  But she is a good patient, doing fine, and I am keeping up!  Benji would thump me good if I didn't!"  -  RG the Helper

"It's Racer's - not much to see there.  I'll try and photo the Princess's belleh - it is one of those soft white ones!"  -   RG the Thinker

"Number 1 and number 4 daughters came up today for a yearly crab feed and schmooze fest.  Usually it is in early December but stuff got in the way.  Had a great time and got caught up on some fun and inspiring family activities and ate our bellehs full!  They brought these intricate painted-rock bunnies to go with our little herd on display.

Then we hit the dessert!  Called Chocolate Turtle Pie - or some such thing.  (Save some for me ladies!)"  -  Father RG

"EARS? ...

... Mine are as good as they get!"  -  Chico the Modest
"I'm working with a team using High School Science students to document what lives in and on some of our local beaches at about low tide.  Here we are a few days ago on a really muddy one!  Those are two large refineries in the background.  They receive several large tanker ship-loads of oil from Alaska every week, and also oil from North Dakota by train.  The refined products go out by ship, train, pipeline and trucks.  If there is a spill disaster, we will have a better idea of what was here in the beaches before.  So far, so good."  -  RG the Citizen Scientist

.... For Benji, it is just about zero, or maybe one or two degrees from flat, maximum!  (It is quite toasty out today.) - RG the Geometer.

Now for a little more of that always welcomed House Of Rabbits History, Tidbits and Trivia!
The story, "Angle of Repose", is a well thought of novel by Wallace Stegner who also wrote a lot about how the western USA was explored and settled with various governmental policies in the mid 1800's.  (One of Stegner's students was Ken Kesey, who wrote "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."  Kesey was also famous for his trip in the bus named Further with the band of Merry Pranksters back in the hippie days ... which is the inspiration for that famous trip on the 7-Bunny-7 a few years ago - and which, of course, you can read about by going to the bottom of the list on the right.)

Still with us here?  Stegner also wrote a book called "Beyond the 100th Meridian" about those times in the west during the mid-1800's.  The 100th meridian goes right up through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and So. and No. Dakota.  To the east of the 100th meridian there is enough rain to farm well, while not so to the west.  A great visual is below - the lights in the USA at night from space.  The 100th meridian is quite easy to see!  (You can even see Racer's nose glowing with such fierce inspiration, just below Vancouver B.C in the far upper left!)

BL noticed that Racer was not eating very much hay when he was inside.  For some reason she got the idea of cutting it into short pieces.  Racer likes it!
"Well, if you are too slow to understand it, I am not about to explain it.  Besides, I'm busy with my oats.  Shut the door and go away."  -  Racer who Knows
