"There is the hops plant back there - having a really good year. And I have several dahlias planted by these daisies. Once they really get to blooming I will cut back the daisies and have quite a show!" - RG the Hopeful
... The tide is out. Been no rain for 32 days. I'm high and dry and stuck in the mud. Somebody call the Coast Guard." - Racer the Desperate
"Ah Racer. You over-reactor you. BL will come get you, give you a cozy snuggle and treat, and put you in your warm condo with a big dollop of oats. Save the Coast Guard for a REAL emergency." - RG the Calm
"Trying my camera on "macro" - but I'm not sure I know enough yet. Here is a close up of an anemone - trolling for bees!!!!" - RG the Practicer
"First - Food. Two or three times a week viewers of this blog go over to the recipe column and look at one or more of them. (If you have made something from there and it turned out well, how about leaving a comment about it.) Anyway, BL made Stromboli the other day - for the first time ever. Boy oh boy was it good. So we have added it over there to the list. Give it a go."
"The confession. I broomed a dragon fly today. Wait, wait - hold the flames! The durn thing was on the back deck which is covered with the big tarp and it was buzzing and buzzing and wearing itself out and could not escape. So a few gentle steerings with the broom worked! RG saves the day - and the dragon fly! Good Ju Ju."
We had to have Winston euthanized today. About 6 weeks ago he began favoring his left front paw. After watching it for a bit, and seeing no improvement, he went to our veterinarian who took x-rays and discovered a tumor growing under Winnie's left shoulder. He told us it was probably malignant, was painful, was beginning to affect his lungs, would continue to grow and there was no way to fix it. He told us we could give Winnie a lot of Meta-cam and see how it goes. And we did that but it grew and grew to where our boy could almost no longer get around and could not take care of himself - he was a constant mess. He stayed as spunky as ever with a good appetite but it was just too much for him and for us. How we will miss him.
Here are some older pictures, one with his mate Lucky from when he was still alive.
We are going to take a couple of days off here and get our heads and hearts back together. I know how much you all thought of Winnie-Pooh-Pooh.
... and then I'll consider another acrobatic trip to the upper. No mun, no fun." - Crass Racer
"Dark eyes Fuchsia. Now, the Rhododendron is the state flower of Washington, but this could be as well. Fuchsias grow so well here - people have enormous hanging baskets of them. We always buy a few $1 starts in the spring and plant 3 or 4 small baskets. BL likes this one." - Botany BobRG (By the way - if you have not visited Mickey and Jade lately, now is the time.)
"Just trying to catch a little air and get this baby off the ground!" - Chico the Old Salt
"The bunns go outside on the upper deck here at about noon - that is when there is shade in all the pens they roam in. For about 5 minutes they all snoop and sniff around like they have just been dropped on the moon for the first time. Then they go to the snuggly place they always go to, and there they pretty much stay until coming-in time at about 5:30 pm. This is Chico re-checking out this litter box. He won't stay - he and Zoey will go in the little hidey-hole in the inside corner of their pen, where it is shady, private, a bit breezy, filled with hay, and quiet. Sounds like a nice afternoon to me!" - RG the Jealous Slave
"Well, OK. Fan - singular. I think he likes it." - RG the Overstater
(I don't think being an "overstater" constitutes crimes against bunnies so don't go trying to make up some more reasons why I do a half-baked job and need reporting to improvement-school. My self-esteem is already not too hot you know.)
"This evening we were watching Racer in his 2-story condo while we were having dinner. He has a platform in between the bottom and the top floors. It is about 6" wide and 10" long, right under the hole. I suppose it is about 8" from floor to platform and another 8" from platform to upper floor. He was sitting on the bottom floor, just having finished noshing some oats and playing a tune on the water bottle. Suddenly his ear twitched and in the blink of an eye he was up on the top floor, and turned around 180 degrees too! Racer is not a spring chicken - I think we reckon him to be 7 or 8. But what inspiration. I think BL might be starting gymnastics to keep up!" RG - the Narrator
Our Linden tree is way taller than our 2-story house now. At the moment, it is FULL of sweet smelling blossoms - and bees. I can hear the buzzzz for quite a ways away. Our Buzzing Tree!
... I must have missed them. Maybe I'll just miss the weekend too." - Laz-Y-kBoy
"This pink climbing rose is several years old and is very prolific. I feed it every 6 weeks with those Bayer systemic feed and black-spot prevention pellets that come in a blue plastic bottle. It works so well. The rose is a special one - it is called Super BL. Later I will show you the special King RG lilies once they bloom!" - RG yur Tour Guide
