Wh...Everybody take good care of your cherry trees. What a gift! Here in Austin, we have a native species that grows only in this area. I believe it is called an escarpment cherry. It grows in the micro climes created by the hills/ravines/gulches/creek drainage areas. These keep them warmer or cooler, depending on the season. They become huge, have a lovely silver bark and are covered with white blossoms of the most incredible fragrance in the spring.<br />They just look red, red, red with cherries in a good year. In the fall their leaves are beautiful. I love them. Probably 3 people in Austin know they exist. They are so wonderful and are strictly the preserve of the wild life because hardly anyone notices them. Like they say, nowhere else but Austin, but when they say it, it is supposed to be a good thing. That's one of the city's slogans.
