BRIGHTNESS, EVEN WITH THE DARK ....

Racer is so inspirational!
(And so darned cute!)

Went to Mr. Twister again today (twice a week for about an hour) ... he says I'm making progress. There are about 12 different "exercises" I am to do at home, twice a day. Today he added three more! I'm pretty disciplined, I keep a log, I've done them all, regularly, for 13 days now. I asked him if people really did do them all, regularly; there being so many and people so busy. He said he didn't want to tell me. But I kept at it and he finally told me that usually if there are more than three different exercises, people won't do them! .... wowzer .... I should be 100% limber in that shoulder in no time!

Any of you all there ever have physical therapy? Were you the three or none type?

SNUGGLE YOUR BUNNIES EXTRA GOOD ....

Rabbie Burns, one of our favorite bunnies has suddenly died :<( Just when we're having so much fun at the Bunny Bash and crowing about Chico .....

.... so give your bunns some special time .. You can find Rabbie's family blog on our blog list, and there read about how sudden death can come .. the way we all so fear. But also see a marvelous slide show celebrating Rabbie's life ... although if you did not know Rabbie well you'll need to dig into some of their past posts to see he shared life with a BIG pet spider!

CHICO UPDATE ....

Chico has had the last of his various meds and potions and Bunny Lady proclaims him as good as new! Everything is working as it should and Chico is like he always used to be. Whew!
(in reading back over the posts about Chico, I don't think they quite conveyed the despair we felt. There was Chico taking on water and nutrical and even eating some, but nothing coming out ... we totally expected the very worst there for awhile. Such a huge relief to get up in the morning and see his litter box - used!)Chico has never been much of a water drinker, and the bunns had a lot of spinach in their salads recently .. high in calcium. Could of been the problem. Chico is getting lots of watermelon now, to keep him better hydrated.

What a party for the bunnies ... we feel like we should go help clean up and put things away! That was a big effort, well done! We'll be talking about that for a long time. Take a well deserved break, Texas!

EXHAUSTED .. IN A GOOD WAY ....

What a party at Cadburys. For all we know it's still jumping there. Had to come home for a rest.
Back over tomorrow for more music, buffet, old friends, stories, and good times!!!!

10 FEET OF RAIN EVERY YEAR !!!!!

Now a'for ya get all antsy to run off to that fun little town of Forks, WA. - it rains .. a lot. 10 feet is twice what the So. Oregon Coast gets! We've been there. The last time was several summers ago. On the spur of the moment we grabbed some food, a big tarp, sleeping bags, and some wine and headed out past Forks to one of the neat secluded beaches near LaPush. It rained all night, the romance of the deal wore off real quick. At 4:00am we were huddled under the tarp in the rain, half soaked, dividing our last sand-encrusted bagel, waiting for enough daylight to see the trail back out. We finally got to the car, threw all the wet stuff in the trunk, and drove to Forks, There is a big, warm, rustic restaurant with lots of hot coffee. Ahhhh.... Otherwise NO-ONE goes there .. it is just a pass through town on the Olympic Peninsula loop! Until now !!!!

Now it's $40 for a guided tour of a dead little town!

Got to get to bed ... the big Pahty tomorrow! Even Chico is back to his old healthy self for it!

(oh ... the march madness .. I still have a team in the hunt, Michigan State! Washington, Gonzaga, Michigan gone ...)

ROCK ON, BUNNIES !!!!!!

YES ... YES !!! We Bunns are taking over the blog to remind everybunn to get over to Cadbury's and check out all the fun coming Saturday and Sunday ....
Once there .. hop on to the Maelstrom site and drop a small donation on one of the nominated rabbit rescue sites!!! The bunns from Canada nominated the rescue group to get the event donations, but they all are deserving!!
We can't wait!

Bunnies Budding ....

A day, now and then, dry enough to get out! Although invariably it sprinkles some. The Boyz know where the dry spots are though ... looks like they sprout up a bit more each day.
Chico is doing very nicely, so we'll leave him out of the limelight for awhile ... it's been great, all the support and ideas for help. BL still can't believe that so many people are excited about seeing a used litter box first thing in the morning!
I'm done with the sling and going into the 2nd week of physical therapy .. all passive still. Two times a week, for an hour, with MR. TWISTER, and twice a day at home.
And - I have lots greater motion in that arm, I "use" it more, and there is very little discomfort ... and I can drive me where I want/need to go! BL is a great chauffeur and she has heated seats, but we are both happy to be done with that obligation!

TA DA !!!!!!

Chico's litter box this Tuesday morning!

.... OK, OK, so it isn't a LOT but when you are worried that everything is sludged shut, this is GOLD! Chico is eating really well and still getting some stuff by syringe in his mouth and is really lively, so we are feeling nice and positive.

BL got some watermelon and cantaloupe and fresh pineapple .. he is getting lots of moisture plus greens, hay, and oats ... he eats a LOT! Now tell me true, Goldie ... does a FULL blond really have more fun????

IT'S GONE, FOR SURE ...

"It's Benji, you boob!" First thing I heard this morning right after "He peed some, come look at the poops!"

Anyway, sure enough that was the box in with Benji and Goldie and ... oh I am just losing it ... oh well ... la la la !!!!!!!!! But I DO know this tail (especially since I recognize the fleecy!) The Princess for sure, but I am not sure what she is doing since it normally folds up her back and all you see is the little cotton ball! (It sort of looks like a paw from that Diva Kitty!) Chico is doing a little more of what he needs to do so that is good. We were so worried last night ... he eats greens and hay and oats and nutrical and had a bunch of water under his skin ... but all that going in and nothing coming out ... oh yikes ... so it was that awful fear to peek in there this morning .... but ... there he was with many poopsy-toots and several wet spots, ... and today is going better so we will just keep on with our treatments and thanks again for all the support!

LISTEN ... IF YOU HAVEN'T, HOP OVER TO BUNNYGIRL AND CADBURY AND GET INVOLVED WITH THE BIG MAELSTROM BUNNY BASH CONCERT AND CHARITY COMING THIS WEEKEND!

WHO IS OUT THERE ... STATE YOUR FULL NAME ...

We could have a "Guess the Bunny" contest, but I would probably lose. I am pretty sure this is The Princess, although her current box has no side holes. I took the picture several days ago, and labeled it "Nose". There is a big hole now in the bottom of her box ... and her box is white. Only Chico has a white box too, and this is surely not Chico. I bet the box was turned on it's side when this was taken .... yes, that must be it. Right? Hello mind, you still all there?Speaking of Chico, his condition is the same .. he is alert, played again outside, eats reasonably well. But little pee and poops .. not a good sign at all. Chico had another "sub-Q" water infusion today .. he'll take tomorrow off and then we'll see. It's a terrible worried, unsettled feeling we have ... thanks still for the kind words and helpful ideas, they mean a lot to us, and many we have tried.

FRESH AIR IS GOOD HERE .....

It was a nice day! today. Although Chico's "elimination" habits are not doing real well, he is perky and eats some hay, oats, and salad greens - along with his Nutrical.
So, outside he went and seemed to enjoy the fresh air , smells, and room to roam and explore. We will hope to see him even better tomorrow.

Here is some classic "Back fence bunny gossip" with Benji. I suspect Benji is mainly listening. (Despite the friendly appearance, you will note that's double wire with 4 inches of separation!)

Chico's sludgy urine was plastered in the fur under his hindquarters and tail and was pretty obvious. Sometimes it shows up as a dark chalky looking stuff in the litter box, but this was much thicker with kind of a gritty feel ...

Friday, March 20, 2009

SHHHHH, DO NOT DISTURB .....

Chico is still having problems with thick, sludgy urine and he certainly has discomfort. He is quite alert, moves around, and eats little nibbles of hay and salad, not enough though. He gets a dose of Metacam daily, which manages pain, a bunch of under-the-skin water once a day, a diuretic, an anti-biotic, and Nutrical .. a gooey brown food fed by a syringe.

Here he is with BL this evening after getting washed up, blow-dried, and all his necessary meds and food.

So we'll see how it goes tomorrow - same routine.

My goodness all you folks who sent in your support, good vibes, kind thoughts, suggestions, and hellos. It is mind boggling, so much caring for a little funny Lionhead who was found in a friend's yard some time ago. Thanks so much ...

CHICO'S NOT WELL :<(

Here is Chico-burrito getting some pineapple juice with an anti-biotic .. he does not like to do this! He got up this morning with thick, grainy urine and obvious discomfort. It seems like too much calcium but he gets the same diet as the other guys and they are all OK.

He went for a check and an ultrasound and got one of those "sub-Q" water doses .. he is going to get one a day for three more days, plus anti-biotics in case it's an infection and metacam for pain. The "sub-Q" process we have done before ourselves, but not for a long time so, thankfully, a good friend will come and do it on the weekend. Poor Chico ... poor us. Chico and BL are VERY close.

As to the pie and crust .... you buy the Pillsbury crust in a box in the chill section of the grocery store and follow the recipe on the box! Except before baking you brush milk on the top crust and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Put one of those aluminum crust-edge protectors on it so that part doesn't get too done.

SUNNY BUNNY ...

Taking advantage of what we've had so little of. She may have forgotten what it is!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

MY TREAT ......

I went driving on my own today .. first time in six weeks! I did OK, can't really do much with my left arm, but one good arm and a knee to hold the wheel while I'm getting a better grip for a tight turn works. I did signal with my wipers a few times before my brain got those levers right.
Soooooooo ... in celebration this is my treat from Bunny Lady!!! Made with an apple we just found called Pacific Rose .. mighty tasty. Usually very pricey but someone had a special!

Baxter does not care for pie, but he and all the bunns go joyful for that Pacific Rose apple!
Every time I see Bax I think what a great guy he is. A big mini-lop, someone found him, shabby, dirty, and tired, wandering in a street. So we don't know for sure how old he is. He is totally content, he'll just lay on your lap for hours ... it's like he has seen and experienced a whole lot of life and now warm, fed, cuddled and cared for is quite plenty. Like a wise old man. I learn quite a bit from Baxter. I am sure he's been in bonds and maybe gold, but not stocks lately! He no doubt has some fine old cognac and a few Cuban cigars laid in as well!

GOLDIE'S TURN TO SNUGGLE .....

I just don't know how BL gets them all suggled up like that. When I try it's like trying to jitterbug - it plumb eludes me - and I often get nipped....

Goldie has been getting some serious brushing and trimming lately .. no full photos until things grow back evenly!

Sunday, March 15, 2009

HAPPY CAMPERS ....

I can finally manage The Princess in my lap .... been quite a long time and good for us both. I really can't do much with that left arm yet, that will probably be another 4 weeks before I do much but carry it around!

Still no sign of Spring .. we have had only 13 days this year where the temp got into the 50s .. no 60s. A cold, dreary, dank, gray, gloomy, sodden, brooding several months. No wonder Lewis and Clark only stayed one winter! But then sometime soon .... Do you remember Mr. Perry Como singing "The greenest green you've ever seen is in Seattle, and the sky's the bluest blue in Seattle ..." well, that is usually May! Mostly we all just sing "Louie, Louie" - even though no one seems to know the words. About now even that does not seem to matter.

MUSTA BEEN SOME PARTY SAVANNAH ....

She's in there sleeping .. already it is 8:00am.
"Savannah! - Come out and tidy this place up!"

"OK OK, I'm on it ... it's not as bad as it looks -
I think it was nightmares ... from that brussel sprout!"

On Dandy's Journal site, in England, several of the bunns get brussel sprout trees ... and they just eat away on the whole thing. Seems like a lot. We got just a few of the little sprouts and gave everybunn a half in their evening salad. They were all gone in the morning! Have we been missing something here?

BUNNY WORK ....

Ten rabbits ... there's a couple of days work .... apple sticks .... yummmm

Thursday, March 12, 2009

CHILLY-FEET......

Now - Who do you suppose tracked all through that snow????Uh ... does it show?????
Yes, most of the bunns finally got out today .. it is warming up and much of the snow is gone. Now maybe Spring will come. April is Tulip Festival here ... fields and fields of them. They better get sprouting!!!!!!

Everybunn send some good energy waves to Niblet and Peaches ...
they have some vet "issues."

IF HE CAN, I CAN ......

Lucky's pal Winston can be a little snuggler too ... it's just that sometimes
he prefers to be a little pistol!

Some have asked for the stories of how we got all these rabbits ... we're still "chewing" on that ....

LUCKY LUCKY ....

The Luckster is surely one lucky Lucky!!! He gets the royal cuddlin' and do you think he likes that? He's double lucky because when we first got him he was very frail and suffering from excess heat and stress. He has become a sturdy, happy, dandy bunn - even if he does have to live with that rascal Winston!Hoo boy ... back down almost to 20 again tonight. Our yard looks like Alaska!
Went to the Doc today ... been 5 weeks. Things are OK. I can leave the sling off more around the house, and can ditch it for good, except when out in crowds, in a week. That's when I start physical therapy. The first 4 weeks will be arm and shoulder movements that require no use of the shoulder muscles ... dangling, swinging, and moving it with my other hand and arm. It takes all those 10 weeks to fully heal that reattached and stitched tendon. Boy what an ordeal. But - I have no pain .. just odd sensations of stretching, tightness and pressure in my shoulder ... and I am mighty happy. I'm pretty sure the secret Chinese methods that I faithfully used helped with that! So, onward I go.....

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..........

Welcome to March 9, 2009. Tonight it is going to 20 degrees. This is daffodil and tulip country, people. Give us a break. Obviously no bunnies growing in the pots today ...Here is Baxter, tickling the ivories with all four feet. (And perhaps an ear.)
Baxter is hoping to be in the Rock Star Band over at BunnyGirl's later this month.

BACK IN ANOTHER TIME ......

I ran out of current bunny pictures! we had some company today so I missed any photo ops.

Here is a picture from more than 6 years ago ... our little Jersey Woolly, Benson. He was a little fuzzy cuddly guy, bonded with The Princess, one of the real good ones. Benson died more than a year ago now .. a respiratory problem. We still miss the little guy ...

GUESS I BETTER ....

SPRING AHEAD!!!!

Gosh sakes ... The U of Washington BBall team is the Pac 10 champion! Whoa! best sports news for this part of the country since "Zorn to Largent" practically. and .. the Michigan State Spartans won the Big 10, and they're my Alma Mater so I got a two-fer!!!!

Friday, March 6, 2009

HURRY LUCKY ... OH HURRY, HURRY .....

Come on Lucky! I REALLY have to go - bad!

I guess Winston forgot about the other litter box!

CHICO'S DELIGHT .....

Sometimes Chico gets a morning bed-snuggle with Bunny Lady before the daily activities start He really gets tucked up in under her chin .. we moved him away a bit to get the picture. He's a cuddler!

Daffodils are blooming here!!!

Snow this weekend!!!

ARE THERE BUGS IN HERE????

I don't think so ... the cameraguy just interrupted some serious cleaning!

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

TWO HEADS ARE BETTER .....

Oh yes ... especially when they are Goldie and Benji.
We've had three kind of nice days in a row! The bunz all got out for fun and frolic.

A couple posts back came a comment from Tiberia at the House Rabbit Society. Which reminds us .. if you have any questions about bunnies, they are a great place to start!

Monday, March 2, 2009

LITTLE BIG-FEET ...

Racer's padded feet ... he's pretty well chillaxed behind bars here! I sometimes think Racer believes the wire has us caged and he's the free one ... he never seems to feel confined.

(Of course he's got 16 sq. feet of floor plus a hidey shelf, two levels, a box and blankey, ever-full water bottle, three squares plus treats a day, and a ring-side view of everything! Somebody stops and says "Hi" umpteen times a day. And no demands on him!)

-good luck to all you Easterners in the snow!!!-

GAL ZOEY ...

Here is my girl Zoey being patient.
Good help on my camera quandary .. thanks Keith (of Gus and Betsy land.) I do know I often suffer from low light .. it is gloomy here these days, and way above the 45th parallel.
Ignore my classy plaids combo ... I'm house bound.

(Oh ... about "growing" rabbits from seeds or bulbs? Uh ... no.)
