Kitty Boy overhears Chico the Vigilant's and Savannah the Terrible's conversation and interprets it thus:
Oh Kitty Boy, the buns, the buns are calling From pen to pen and down throughout the house The summer's here and all the garden's blooming Ti's you, ti's you must go and get the mouse. But come ye back and join us on the deck Or when dinner's done, come sit upon the couch ti's we'll be there in sunshine or in shadow Oh Kitty Boy, oh Kitty Boy we love you so.
Proving that selective hearing is not just the prerogative of buns and men.
Notes from Life in a Cat House: As a result of all your support, RG has caved and Kitty Boy is now an inside cat. I need to share what that now means to me.
I have a litter box in front of the shower in my bathroom. I have litter on the floor of my bathroom. I have cat hair and little pieces of litter in my nice bathtub, since KB jumps in there before launching up to the window sill to enjoy fresh air and the view.
I also have cat hair in my bathroom sink, because every morning when he knows I'm going to brush my teeth ... he jumps into the sink, curls up and smiles at me. He sleeps in the bathroom at night.
Our home as 3 levels. KB seems to get a tremendous burst of energy at bedtime. Last night I chased him downstairs, missed him; then came up stairs and had to then go up into the loft where he was hiding under a chair. I got him, but it wasn't a pretty sight. I was exhausted and my legs felt as if they belonged to someone else.
We got rid of the smelly moist food, but now he seems to want/need something special. He follows me when I give out breakfast to all the buns, with an expectant look on his face as if to say, "don't I get something special, too"? Ditto at salad times at night. The pleading look, the touch of sadness in his eyes.
What I loved most about him was our "time together" when I read on the couch or watched movies in my chair. He sat with me the whole time. Now, of course, since he has complete run of the house ... he doesn't do that anymore. In fact his favorite place is MY black leather chair that I LOVE and I USED to sit in when using my computer.
Bottom line here: KB is a happy indoor cat, who scratches carpets, couches, bunny condos and other things that RG doesn't know about yet.
Buns have tentatively accepted his intrusion in our peaceful lives. So ... another animal life saved. A human life hanging by a thread.
That's a cat for you; played on your heartstrings until he got a paw in the door, then ditched you as soon as he knew he was in for good. They're so sneaky like that.
I'd only give him treats when you're sitting on the couch or in your chair, at the times when he used to snuggle with you. You'll have your companion back in no time. :)
Congrats to BL and KB. A cat is a wonderful companion too and there are so many out there that need homes. Despite RG's protests I suspect one day you will see him and KB exchanging some love.
BL, maybe KB is just exploring all his new territory and getting used to it. You can try cat treats to entice him back to your side and maybe closing off part of the house at night. Our three inside kitties generally ignore our oldest son, but are all over him when he breaks out the treats.

well cats are like that, the buns are right to be suspicious!
Try whisker lickens kitty treats for KB! We used to always give those to my cats.

I love the Danny Boy parody.

Yo, folks ... are you all too young to remember Natalie Wood in the movie "Gypsy"?
