OOOGAH, OOOGAH, ... PREPARE TO DIVE ...

... close all the hatches Winston - we are going down to solve this oil leak for once and for all. OOOGAH, OOOGAH.

Oh no you don't Lucky. My mother won't let me and besides, Dirk Pitt here is on the job anyway ...
Somehow I think Dirk and Al could fix this in a trice, and, have some thrills, bad guys, handsome girls, and several close calls to boot! Where is Sandecker when we need him????

(rg is a BIG Dirk Pitt fan.)

SUNNY, SUNDAY (OOOPS!) - SATURDAY - BUNNY ...

Savannah
Garden Beds
Here are our raised garden beds. Most of the green is garlic and potatoes. There is plenty of bunny stuff ... it has been chilly here, so that is going slow. In the background is an arbor with two different grapes. This fall I am going to add another board to all the raised beds so they will be higher out of the chip walkways.

CAN'T YOU BOYZ ....

... just sit still for a minute??? (Say Lucky ... that paw better not be doing what it looks like it might be doing ...)

Quite a nice crop of Iris this year ... these are all pretty much what you call "run of the mill" iris, but there are two very nice (read as "expensive") ones in there somewhere - I really should showcase them better. (there are a lot of gardening things I should do better .. reminds me of a story about this farmer .. )

DO NOT DISTURB!

Here was our first full summer at the House. This was WAY before all the perennials grew up and so we planted lots of annuals for color and cut bouquets. Many I started inside in little seed beds on warming pads. Still, that was a pretty expensive proposition and a LOT of work every year. Now the work is mostly a pretty good fall clean up, a real good spring clean up and pruning, and plant a few annuals and/or new items here and there. So, a fair amount of work, but one of my hobbies I enjoy.
All the veggie gardening is done in raised beds* - they are down at the end of the path headed to the right. Only way to fly. I can keep the soil nice, keep the weeds away, and they look pretty neat and tidy too. Picture tomorrow. Someone suggested a camellia instead of the pampas grass. I need another suggestion .. I don't like camellias - too messy when the flowers fall.
* except for volunteer chard which seems to sprout many places and makes for great picking for evening greens. I plant the kind with many colors of stalks and leaves so they are nice color spots where they choose to be as well!

"HANG ON TIGHT A MINUTE BAX -

- I need to let a little air out - you are a bit over-inflated." - Your Beloved Zoey

BEFORE - April, 2002
Looking off the upper deck toward the newly built bird feeding station. I took all the sod out of the paths, lined them with anti-weed paper, and laid down wood chips. The dirt edges were all dug down about a foot deep, and all the rocks were screened out. The dirt was amended with compost and peat moss and put back in. By now I have widened those edge beds to about 4 times that width - all the same process - ugh. A big wheelbarrow of dirt had a small wheelbarrow of rocks as a result! The path headed back to the lower-right goes to what are now grape vines and raised garden beds. The one going out the middle has an archway of a pretty pink climbing rose and honeysuckle.

AFTER - May, 2010
There are those peonies and columbines that were in yesterday's picture. To the left of the path is a hedge of hemlock trees, pruned narrow and 5 feet tall. You see some Calla Lillies along there too. The mess by the corner of the hot-tub deck is Pampas grass ... dang stuff just grows, dies back, grows, etc. I probably will dig it out and try something else.
Anyway .. there is 8 years of digging, planting and growing. My gardening motto always is to get stuff planted, even little stuff - it will get big - you can always move it later. (Boy have I moved stuff - we had a LOT of gardening friends that delivered many pots of little plants when we first got here.)

WAITING, WAITING, .....

"Put me in coach, I'm ready to play - today! Look at me! I can be center field!"

Peonies, columbines, shade poppies, and a few other odds and ends on the path to the bird feeders.

THE MAGICIAN ...

Winston pulls a rabbit out of his ... robe!

It is a pretty time of year here in the return-address portion of the continental USofA .. I will share a few yard and garden pictures from around the "House of Rabbits"
I like columbines so we have many ... once started they sort of go where they please! I like these blue ones especially. The yellow flowers are shade-poppies - also very prolific!

"HELLO, I'M WINSTON."

"I hear the salads comin',
comin for my friends.
And I ain't seen a carrot
since I don't know when.
I'm stuck in Bunny Prison
and time keeps draggin on.
But those salads keep on rollin,
on to Lucky Bunns.
.
I bet there's Bunnys sitting
in those fancy litter trays.
They're probably eating craisins
and lots of gourmet hays.
But I know I had it comin'.
I know I can't be free.
But there's all those dandelions
and that's what's killin me."

...

Keep it going friends ...

That picture .. I just had to use it again! It is the 7001st picture from my digital camera.

"AND SO, MY FELLOW LAGOMORPHS ...

... with the authority vested in me by whom (or what) ever, I implore you to get out there and continue eating, pooping, biting ankles, banging empty dishes, chewing on baseboards, thumping, disapproving, and in general, making life miserable for the 2-footed Hoomans who deign to attempt to care for you." (whew) "Thank you ... as you were" - Winston

(Oh gosh, good luck Oklahoma...)

"JOSE CUERVO ....

... YOU ARE A FRIEND OF MINE ..."

"So, Goldie ... do you think the song selections were quite good?"
...
"I suppose Benji, I suppose." "But I've been mostly thinking about that one question never answered about what song would bunnies sing to the 2-foot folks."
...
"Golleee Goldie. What a good point. Maybe some of the Blogger Bunns want to chime in and I'll give it some thought too ..."

BELOVED, INTREPID RACER !!!!!

10th little bunny .... You all pick a song for Racer.
Asides ..
I hope you looked at the blog for the Crafty Green Poet recently ... a wonderful tribute to us here at The House of Rabbits - very special and all the way from Scotland.

New Yorker for May 3 had another cute rabbit cartoon and so I told them so in a letter ... gotta keep them motivated! On the cover, if the guy would have put a disapproving bunny in the window it would have made it even more perfect!
