CONVERSATION ON A NICE AFTERNOON

"HEY! RG!"  "Yes! What your royalty?"  "What is that gad-awful racket?"  "That is BL mowing the lawn."  "Well, tell her to stop, it is ruining my beauty rest here."  "Oh no you don't, Princess.  YOU tell her."  "Wuss."

"We have this huge cherry tree which is probably a volunteer from a small orchard planted by the original settlers of this area in about 1875.  It is a-buzz with bees today!"  The cherries do not get very big - this is no place to grow good cherrys - but they are very tasty!"

Poor Princess, having her beauty rest interrupted!

We have a wild cherry tree that came up as a volunteer in my "herb garden" in the front yard. The birds love them.

Everybody take good care of your cherry trees. What a gift! Here in Austin, we have a native species that grows only in this area. I believe it is called an escarpment cherry. It grows in the micro climes created by the hills/ravines/gulches/creek drainage areas. These keep them warmer or cooler, depending on the season. They become huge, have a lovely silver bark and are covered with white blossoms of the most incredible fragrance in the spring.
They just look red, red, red with cherries in a good year. In the fall their leaves are beautiful. I love them. Probably 3 people in Austin know they exist. They are so wonderful and are strictly the preserve of the wild life because hardly anyone notices them. Like they say, nowhere else but Austin, but when they say it, it is supposed to be a good thing. That's one of the city's slogans. KB will be glad to know that another one is keep Austin weird.

One of the few reasons to miss TC, MI right RG? Unfortunately the blossoms haven't started here with the wacky weather we've been having. But here's hoping the Cherries are better then last year

Beautiful tree and Princess bunny. BL is my idol. I wish I could mow grass that good. I suck.
