TAKE A BREAK .....
It's past half-past August ... the summer season is winding down ... time to chill out here ... so says Chico. Therefore he has locked me in my double-wire pen.
And, it's a doozy. In front there is a bit of a Bald Cypress tree ... came from the Arbor-day Society several years ago in the mail! Just some teeny seedlings.
Three have lived, even though the Arbor Day folks clearly did not study our climate and tree suitability! They are like a feathery-needled Cedar, but the needles turn brown and all fall off in the winter and it looks like heck until the spring growth again!

PRETTY IN BLUE
Between the color contrast and the way the camera handled it, this looks somewhat like some photoshopping! You like Fuschias? These guys wintered over - barely - but are coming along pretty well now. They hang UNDER the deck where the bunnies roam, so there is some fine organic fertilizer activity to help their progress.

POOFY ..........
Of course I'm poofy ... RG brushes me almost every day. He better .....
The first time the pasture owner let cows in there, BL got pretty upset because always before it was beautiful horses and we didn't think there would be any "stinky, fly infested" cows close by.
Before long they broke through the fence and were all over our yard! 10 of them! Dairy cows - black and white.
We did not know who owned them and the pasture owner wasn't home. We herded back what we could and jerry-rigged the fence. BL got on the phone and finally tracked down the cow owners who came over toot sweet and got the other cows in and commenced to fix the fence. About now BL began to give those guys a piece of her mind ... but the older guy said, "Mam, this is farm country and you live where farming is done. Sometimes the smell and flies are unavoidable. Besides, these are female dairy cows just one year old and they are all pregnant. They will have their calves in November and then we will be able to milk them."
BL immediately adopted all the cows and got up every morning and counted to be sure they all were there!

I'M EATING HAY .....
Chico is slowly getting a long strand well nommed and in .... (looks like somebody splattered a big blob of butterscotch over a white bunny.)Everybody names their pets .. here are Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner ....
OK OK OK ... Just kidding ... jeesh ... can't you take a joke?
There were six of these nice Black Angus cows in the pasture behind our house - since they broke down the fence and wandered off, there are now only four. Hmmmm ... (we call that fourth one Appetizer - OK I'm through.)

WHERE TO BEGIN ....
Well, first, thanks for all the nice garden comments .. that is a nice place there, and the angle of the photo hides all the bare spots, weeds, rain-beaten tall flowers and the dead brown lawn! But still I am really pleased with how the whole place turned out ... it was quite a project and maybe someday I can find one of the "before" pictures!
Second, the tune is "I'm Not Lisa", an old country song by Jesse Colter. She was Waylon Jennings' wife - Waylon is now dead from diabetes but certainly was well known as one of Willie Nelson's sidekicks and one of the 4 outlaws ... Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristoffersen. Waylon was supposed to be on the airplane that crashed and killed Buddy Holly, but gave up his seat to another band member who was ill. I like his singing!
Third, you grow garlic like you grow tulips or daffodils. Plant the bulbletts in late-Oct to mid-Nov. and pull them when the leaves start to get brown - usually mid-late July. Buy the bulbs from a feed store/garden store and plant each little clove separately about 6 inches apart! Each bulb breaks up into 10 or more cloves to plant! There are SO many varieties of garlic.
Fourth, the path does lead to the spuds. The tomatoes are just off to the right of the path .. I include a picture ... cherry tomatoes still green. We do not live in the best tomato country ... usually not enough sunlight and heat.
Here is Baxter. The deck there is about head high off the ground and sometimes I stand there and slide a few dandelions through that slot you see just above Bax and the litter box. (That part of the deck is all glassed in .. long story .. later .. and that is the edge of the glass, just off the deck floor.) Anyway, I just mention "Baxter" quite softly a few times and soon he perks up and hotfoots it right over to those green treats!
"Early Girl" cherry tomatoes ... the little color there is a nasturtium blossom ... I'm not too good at crop separation!

"I'M NOT RACER .....
...My name is Winston" ... tra la la .... "My eyes are not blue" ... tra la la .....
It is Winston with his head right over a little whiter spot on the deck floor
to make his nose look white!
Want Garlic? Here is this year's crop - just harvested today. About 40 bulbs I guess.
Want Garlic? Here is this year's crop - just harvested today. About 40 bulbs I guess. I'll hang it up to dry for a month or so and then braid about 8 to a clump.
Lasts about 2/3 of a year!
I am pretty happy with this one! It's how we get to the front of the house from the back yard and gardens. That is our garage back there and the rails on the steps up to the house sticking out at the far right. BL Jr. Jr. helped me do the stone work several years ago!

BACK TO "NORMAL" ...
WOW
... our week of company is gone, temperatures are back to "only" the high 70's, and the big BivalveBash/MudRun Extravaganza is done for another year. (The Bash is a BIG party/Fundraiser for the non-profit we work with here and takes a lot of time and effort and help to pull off ... there is a link over in the Website list ... I did not run this year!)Anyway ... everyone and everybunn is in total bliss ... I present Lucky as my evidence!
A belated bunch of Kudos to D. Moll, all of you, and the great Furry Butt Salute to Hans. I counted at least 100 ... a 100 Butt Salute! Unheard of - a Guinness Record I bet!
