"A bunch of us went to the beach to learn and practice how to scientifically measure and report what is living there. In the event of an oil spill or a tsunami, for example, we need to know what was there vs. what is there after. Next month we and some high schoolers will be doing this at several locations."
"Of course, you need to know what this stuff is called - and "YUK" is not an answer! Fortunately we have detailed identification cards and also some experts with us." - RG the Scientist!
"Don't expect us to be there."

"We have this huge cherry tree which is probably a volunteer from a small orchard planted by the original settlers of this area in about 1875. It is a-buzz with bees today!" The cherries do not get very big - this is no place to grow good cherrys - but they are very tasty!"

"Well, I managed my talk well - two classes - Advanced Placement Juniors and Seniors studying Environmental Issues. My pants weren't unzipped and no one put a thumb tack on my chair.
This link opens to a really nice story about the Skagit Valley and the environmental challenges and successes here. It is quite a place and I am happy to be part of encouraging others to help keep it that way!" - RG the Orator

"Here is a "volunteer" tulip amongst some dandelions. I don't think they often grow from seed. Maybe a chipmunk "moved" the bulb? Pretty." - RG the Confused

(Some of you may have seen the news photo of the older (78!) runner sitting down, with an orange tank top. He was near the finish and blown over by a blast. He is from just down the road, a very fast and inspirational runner here in all our events. Glad he is OK.)

"Let's get this betting/gambling thing straight here. All we did was each send my Brother-in-law $7 and our choices for the various games in the Sweet 16 College Basketball tourney. Our choices turned out to be awful so we won no money. That is it. - BUT! Below is the Hops plant today, April 14, 2013. In the past it has been about mid-June before it reached the top of the iron pole, which is waaaaaay above the roof top of the barn. What is your guess this year? Before June 15 to the top, or after?" - RG the Bookie.

"We've had a lot of rain the past few days. When that happens, the bunns have to trade off being outside under the big tarp-roof to stay dry. This is usually the place for Chico and Zoey, but Benji gets a turn here. He is not impressed except he does like to jump up and climb into the hay bag that is there!" - RG Explaining

"I love my little bridge hideaway. Fresh hay and fresh air. And, the little door that goes inside to my food dish and the treats is just off my left shoulder! When RG goes "PSSST" or "Bagel!" I am just two skips and a hop away! It does drip through in the rain, like today, and if I drowse and forget to move, like today, I get a bit wet but it's no biggie. I have a magnificent fur coat!" - The Princess Content
