WHERE TO BEGIN ....

Well, first, thanks for all the nice garden comments .. that is a nice place there, and the angle of the photo hides all the bare spots, weeds, rain-beaten tall flowers and the dead brown lawn! But still I am really pleased with how the whole place turned out ... it was quite a project and maybe someday I can find one of the "before" pictures!

Second, the tune is "I'm Not Lisa", an old country song by Jesse Colter. She was Waylon Jennings' wife - Waylon is now dead from diabetes but certainly was well known as one of Willie Nelson's sidekicks and one of the 4 outlaws ... Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristoffersen. Waylon was supposed to be on the airplane that crashed and killed Buddy Holly, but gave up his seat to another band member who was ill. I like his singing!

Third, you grow garlic like you grow tulips or daffodils. Plant the bulbletts in late-Oct to mid-Nov. and pull them when the leaves start to get brown - usually mid-late July. Buy the bulbs from a feed store/garden store and plant each little clove separately about 6 inches apart! Each bulb breaks up into 10 or more cloves to plant! There are SO many varieties of garlic.

Fourth, the path does lead to the spuds. The tomatoes are just off to the right of the path .. I include a picture ... cherry tomatoes still green. We do not live in the best tomato country ... usually not enough sunlight and heat.

Here is Baxter. The deck there is about head high off the ground and sometimes I stand there and slide a few dandelions through that slot you see just above Bax and the litter box. (That part of the deck is all glassed in .. long story .. later .. and that is the edge of the glass, just off the deck floor.) Anyway, I just mention "Baxter" quite softly a few times and soon he perks up and hotfoots it right over to those green treats!

"Early Girl" cherry tomatoes ... the little color there is a nasturtium blossom ... I'm not too good at crop separation!

"I'M NOT RACER .....

...My name is Winston" ... tra la la .... "My eyes are not blue" ... tra la la .....
Can you Name That Tune???

It is Winston with his head right over a little whiter spot on the deck floor
to make his nose look white!Want Garlic? Here is this year's crop - just harvested today. About 40 bulbs I guess.
I'll hang it up to dry for a month or so and then braid about 8 to a clump.
Lasts about 2/3 of a year!
I am pretty happy with this one! It's how we get to the front of the house from the back yard and gardens. That is our garage back there and the rails on the steps up to the house sticking out at the far right.
BL Jr. Jr. helped me do the stone work several years ago!
(I have to reattach the downspout before the fall rains ... all the plant growth pulled it apart!)

BACK TO "NORMAL" ...

WOW
... our week of company is gone, temperatures are back to "only" the high 70's, and the big BivalveBash/MudRun Extravaganza is done for another year. (The Bash is a BIG party/Fundraiser for the non-profit we work with here and takes a lot of time and effort and help to pull off ... there is a link over in the Website list ... I did not run this year!)

Anyway ... everyone and everybunn is in total bliss ... I present Lucky as my evidence!A belated bunch of Kudos to D. Moll, all of you, and the great Furry Butt Salute to Hans. I counted at least 100 ... a 100 Butt Salute! Unheard of - a Guinness Record I bet!
A pleasant lane leading to .... the potatoes!

IT'S A GOOD LIFE...

Bunny Lady Junior Junior has a special way with Savannah. Pretty nice for Savannah.

It's cooling off...I think we have got through the hot spot. I am enjoying my visit.

~BL JR.JR. [Tara]

THIS IS AWFUL ...

It was 97 here Wednesday ... it was 90 in the house. I'm going to Mexico.
Heard it was over 100 where Freckles lives ... ugh.
Thanks everybunn for all the cool-off ideas and offers to visit. I think we are stuck here for the duration. Maybe a little better tomorrow.

TRYING IT ALL ...

Here is a block of ice wrapped in a damp towel with a fan blowing the cool air at Chico. That works well - although the house does not get cooler - 86 in here today. Block of ice lasts about 8 hrs!

Here is Racer sitting on the "frozen" stone tile. He did not stay there long. Neither did any one else!

Another "swamp cooler" blowing cool air at the 3 cages where the pairs live. You see Benji back there. We closed the windows and all the bunns just layed low - put them outside finally about 8 pm and they'll stay out until 11pm. House does not cool down - this 4 day hot spell is total unusual for here .. summer evenings in the Pac. NW are always sweatshirt or sweater times!

The hollyhocks sure do like it. We have soaker-hoses and gave all the beds a good soaking last weekend so grow and bloom is the name of the outside game.

SEND COOL ...

Hot here .. house is 82 ... outside is 84 ... going higher on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fans good. Bunns do not know about frozen water bottles ... they get as far away as they can! Maybe we will blow a fan across a block of ice and put everybunn in one room with that!

HOT ... WHINE

It's hot ... and it is going to get hotter. We might have 3 days close to 90 degrees. Practically unheard of here. Most houses do not have air-conditioning ... including ours. Plenty of fans. Water bottles in the freezer.
Bunns will probably stay in the house and lay low. Ugh .... Sally Holmes ... an incredible climbing rose. Those clusters are 10 inches across or more. Blooms most of the summer.

HOUSEWORK ...

The Princess has taken to moving things around lately ... good think she doesn't have one of those guy bunns who comes home late, in the dark .....

Hollyhocks looking really good this year ...

The "rust" problem we often have is very minimal ...

LIFE IS GOOD ....

The Boyz ... Lucky and Winston ... like this spot outside in the warm summer afternoon ... some shade, a fan, fresh hay, a box for hiding or chewing, pals Zoey and Baxter next door ... ... oh .. and attentive slaves. That would be us :<)

ONE MOMENT PLEASE ....

Uh ... this is hard, bear with me ... I, Baxter, have been authorized by all the other bunns in the House of Rabbits to take a very brief moment away from our usual disdain and disapproval to give a shout out to Bunny Lady for some very touching and well deserved fame ... you can read it here ... but DO come back. (and beware - there are some killer fish tacos in there)

http://www.kitchenwareoutfitters.com/DamonLeeFowlersBlog/tabid/1715/EntryID/44/Default.aspx

Now .... back to the usual disdain and disapprovals ....

Well done Baxter. We tend to keep our other talents, activities, and interests fairly private .. this being a bunny blog .. but this one is just too good to not toot about!
Since bloggers love comments, you might drop one on the blogger - Mr. Fowler - above!!! Tell him "The Husband" sent you!

Some beautiful lillys brought by friends from Holland, with ______________ in the background. (Maybe one of you horticulturalists can fill in the blank .....)

GOT TREAT ????

You know Racer lives right where he can see all the coming and going.
We had some fun company the past few days and so there was even extra comings and goings!
I think (I KNOW!) there were some extra goodies for good old Racer Guy!
Now he has perfected this trick!!!!It is very pretty out in our yard and garden now ... I think I'll include some scenes for a few posts ... here is a "wall" of nasturtiums ... all volunteered from last year and all highly prized by the furry tenants of The House of Rabbits! Some go in salads every night! A nice mix of blossom colors and shades.

NORMALLY ....

Zoey is normally a stunner ..... as seen here in her standard Press Picture.
... and, I think she has forgiven us for the agony of the pedicure.

Friday, July 17, 2009

BIG TROUBLE FOR ME ....

Zoey does really not want this picture shown ... can't blame her I guess.
I'm in deep bunny doo doo now.

But - nails must be clipped .. and Zoey - you should see some of the OTHER pictures! This is a GOOD one! :<)

"Look what they've done to my Fur, Mom, Look what they've done to my fur!" Tra la la .... .... well, we trimmed .. and maybe got a bit carried away .. OK ... but ... we are not done yet. This girl needs a LOT of help ....

Yeah? Well, how about trimming this long eyebrow then while you are at it Mr. Scissors-hands.

Actually I think it is just a piece of errant straw ... those live here and there in our place.
Another trip pic ... BL's salami sandwiches went like hot cakes !!!!

WE'RE BAAAACKKK ...........

.... and we care because????

Oh come on ... yes you got pretty good care while we were gone. And yes things looked fine when we got back. But still ... you might have missed us just a little bit..

We had a good time .. Saturday it was 108.3 on the thermometer but it was tolerable on the edge of the Columbia River and in the shade. We were about half way between Wenatchee and Lake Chelan if you look on a Washington map. Nights cool off nicely ....
More tomorrow hopefully ... now to beddy bye!
