 "Well Racer - you see we got this phone call at about 2:00 am the other morning from the VISA card people.  They wanted to know if a $45 charge from an Edinburgh Tattoo Parlor was something we knew about.  It was too late to do anything about it so we just hoped for the best.  Actually, it looks pretty nice and will probably "grow out!" - RG the Reasonable.

We have several of these big yellow swallowtail butterflies this year.  Last year only two.  They spend so much time darting hither and yon!

 "The confession.  I broomed a dragon fly today.  Wait, wait - hold the flames!  The durn thing was on the back deck which is covered with the big tarp and it was buzzing and buzzing and wearing itself out and could not escape.  So a few gentle steerings with the broom worked!  RG saves the day - and the dragon fly!  Good Ju Ju."

WINSTON HAS DIED :<(

WINSTON   2006 - 2013

 We had to have Winston euthanized today.  About 6 weeks ago he began favoring his left front paw.  After watching it for a bit, and seeing no improvement, he went to our veterinarian who took x-rays and discovered a tumor growing under Winnie's left shoulder.  He told us it was probably malignant, was painful, was beginning to affect his lungs, would continue to grow and there was no way to fix it.  He told us we could give Winnie a lot of Meta-cam and see how it goes.  And we did that but it grew and grew to where our boy could almost no longer get around and could not take care of himself - he was a constant mess.  He stayed as spunky as ever with a good appetite but it was just too much for him and for us.  How we will miss him.

We are going to take a couple of days off here and get our heads and hearts back together.  I know how much you all thought of Winnie-Pooh-Pooh.

Here is the Hops plant as of July 11.  More and more vines up there now.  Soon there will be too many to hold and it will all slide down about 6 feet and then start new tendrils back up again!

"The bunns go outside on the upper deck here at about noon - that is when there is shade in all the pens they roam in.  For about 5 minutes they all snoop and sniff around like they have just been dropped on the moon for the first time.   Then they go to the snuggly place they always go to, and there they pretty much stay until coming-in time at about 5:30 pm.  This is Chico re-checking out this litter box.  He won't stay - he and Zoey will go in the little hidey-hole in the inside corner of their pen, where it is shady, private, a bit breezy, filled with hay, and quiet.  Sounds like a nice afternoon to me!" - RG the Jealous Slave

(I don't think being an "overstater" constitutes crimes against bunnies so don't go trying to make up some more reasons why I do a half-baked job and need reporting to improvement-school.  My self-esteem is already not too hot you know.)

Once again, this summer, I am trying to photo and identify the different kinds of butterflies here.  This is a Lorquin's Admiral - a really pretty butterfly!
